Our name means \u201cgateways,\u201d and we\noffer transformative Jewish life experiences that allow our children to access\na gateway to a connection to Judaism. We do so through a variety of soul, mind,\nand body-focused modalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>School Values<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>She\u2019arim<\/em> is a community in which\nrelationships play as important a role in learning as facts. <em>She\u2019arim<\/em> values the close-knit community\nof students and their families \u2013 She\u2019arim is like one big family, and that\ncloseness is one of its great assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with Judaism and\nfamily, She\u2019arim believes it is ultimately important for children to have an enjoyable and\nmeaningful time while engaging with their Jewish\ncommunity. Beyond any facts and words a child may learn in She\u2019arim, we want to\nimpart a love of Mishkan Ha\u2019am\u2019s community and a love of being Jewish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She\u2019arim meets once a week, on Thursdays,\nfrom 4 PM &#8211; 6 PM and once a month on Shabbat (Saturday) from 10 AM &#8211; 12\nPM.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>She\u2019arim is not like school; it is like camp.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Judaica<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Our Judaica curriculum is a\ncombination of experiential learning and a Project Based Learning model. At the\nstart of each 2-3 week unit, students choose a project from a packet of\nchoices: artistic projects (painting, ceramics, mosaic making), social justice\nprojects, cooking and baking projects and more. Students work in pairs or small\ngroups. Each\nShe\u2019arimer is making episodes about topics about which they are passionate such\nas video games and Jewish community, climate change and Jewish values, and\nmore!&nbsp; She\u2019arimers will conduct\ninterviews with people both in and outside the congregation who are experts in\ntheir topics.&nbsp; Each episode will be in\nthe form of a story.&nbsp; Check back here and\non <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mishkanhaam\/\">Mishkan\nHa\u2019am\u2019s Facebook<\/a> page for regular postings of our\nepisodes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Hebrew<\/strong> School<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The rest of our Hebrew\nstudies focus on finding meaning in prayers. We use a curriculum called \u201cHebrew\nin Harmony\u201d which focuses on music. Students listen to a variety of traditional\nand contemporary melodies in order to deepen their experience of the meaning of\nthe prayer. In the end, along with the ability to read a prayer, students start\nto have a relationship with each prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our beginning Hebrew\nstudents study the Alef Bet with a wonderful interactive program called <em>Alef Bet Quest<\/em>. This program tells the\nstory of two kids traveling through Israel. In the classroom, students use a\nHebrew workbook. At home, this is supplemented with online video games based on\nthe workbook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tefillah <\/strong><strong>(Prayer)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Each week, our students\nengage with Tefillah through a Prayer Discussion. In Tefillah, more than just\ngoing through the prayers, we find entry points \u2013 ways to enter in\nand connect to the prayer that are personally\nmeaningful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We start each year with a\ngame that helps us to determine our \u201cspiritual type\u201d as described by theologian\nCorinne Ware. After this, when we discuss prayers together, time is dedicated to each of those types. We might chant\na prayer for the Mystics, study an interesting aspect of a prayer for the Head\ngroup, sing a beautiful melody for the Heart folks, and bring in a concrete way\nto make the world a better place for the Social Justice oriented among us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than having a\ntraditional prayer service each week, we engage in Prayer Discussions. We look\nat the text of a particular prayer, recite it together, and discuss its deeper\nmeaning. The goal is to uncover our evolving relationship with each prayer. For\nexample, we might read the Mi Sheberach prayer and then discuss how we feel\nabout praying for healing.
