Whenever a holiday falls on a Thursday, we are afforded the\nchance to observe that holiday together. This has included Sukkot, Chanukah,\nPurim, Yom Ha\u2019Atzmaut, and Lag B\u2019Omer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each year we celebrate\nThanksgiving together with a program called Thanksgiving Seder, which is held\nin the home of one of our families during the regular She\u2019arim time slot. In\nthat program, we go through a full seder complete with a festive meal of snack\nfoods that demonstrates the Jewish aspects of the American Thanksgiving\nholiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Our Tu B\u2019Shevat Green Fair\nis a highlight of the year! Teams of students prepare tables dedicated to\nparticular Green topics such as protecting polar bears from melting sea ice,\nplanting trees to offset air pollution and deforestation, and comparing the\nmerits of locally grown food vs. organic food. Sometimes we focus on the actual Purim story and\nsometimes these are Purim Schpiels. For example, the She\u2019arimers break into\ngroups. Each group chooses a theme and then places the Purim story into that\ntheme. One year\nwe made matzah from scratch. Another year we spent time learning about Kosher\nfor Passover ingredients and then our chefs were given several ingredients with\nthe goal of making a wonderful Passover dish in the time we gave them that\nwould be voted Passover Dish of the Year by our panel of judges or Beit Din.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Click here to watch our fabulous 2019\nPassover movie &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/mishkanhaam\/videos\/2339694939652438\/\"><strong>The Great Charoset Showdown<\/strong><\/a><strong>!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Lag B\u2019Omer, we have our\nannual carnival. Ahead of time, we vote on a movie. We begin by\njoining with the larger community for Shabbat dinner before breaking off as the\nadults attend the service and we attend to our fun and community building! We\nwatch a movie, make our own desserts (such as Worms in the Mud \u2013 chocolate\npudding with gummy worms and toppings), and play games.
